Chipmunk cheeked cutie Jo Shishido, sometimes credited as Joe Shishido, was a conventionally handsome leading man throughout his twenties, headlining several of the popular melodramas being cranked out by Nikkatsu in the 1950s. Dissatisfied with the quality of the roles he was being offered, Shishido actually underwent plastic surgery in the late 50s in order to give him his now iconic and distinctive look.
