Review

From Irvin Kershner, the man who would go on to direct The Empire Strikes Back (1980), comes The Hoodlum Priest (1961) one of those ripped from the headlines morality films with a slight edge that were all the rage in the waning days of the Hays Code. Don Murray stars as Father Charles Clark, a priest who used to run with street gangs and now uses his passion for the lord to minister to other wayward teens. A year before his big breakout in David and Lisa (1962), 2001's Keir Dullea makes a big impression in just two scenes as one of those wayward teens (though he was 25 when the flick was made), Billy Lee Jackson, who gets taken into jail shirtless! Scandalous stuff for the time!
