Stay gold, Ponyboy! If you went to middle school in the United States of America after the year 1970, it's an almost guarantee that you read S.E. Hinton's novel The Outsiders, or at least watched Francis Ford Coppola's 1983 film adaptation of the same name. This is one of those classic films that brought an entire generation of hot young actors on the cusp of super stardom together just before they all broke out in a big way. Patrick Swayze, Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon, Rob Lowe, Ralph Macchio, Emilio Estevez, and C. Thomas Howell all became bankable leading men after starring together in this flick about a pack of greasers growing up in early 1960s Oklahoma and constantly rumbling with their arch enemies, The Socs (short for socials). Although the film is an ensemble piece, Howell's Ponyboy is the film's audience surrogate, navigating his way through the world as the youngest and most naive member of the gang that includes his older brothers Darry (Swayze) and Sodapop (Lowe), as well as their buddies Dally (Dillon), Two Bit (Estevez), Steve (Cruise), and ill-fated Johnny (Macchio), whose death while saving children from a burning church serves as the big climactic emotional scene of the book and film. As a PG film based on a book read by middle schoolers, you shouldn't go in expecting any nudity, but there is plenty of hot young shirtless action from pre-fame hotties Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, and Tom Cruise, as well as Matt Dillon sporting a nice bulge in his undies! Forget stay gold, these Outsiders will help you stay hard!
