The King is dead, long live the King! The King of Rohan that is, as the Manchester-born Bernard Hill - most known for his portrayal of King Théoden in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and Return of the King - passed away over the weekend.

Before that most audience members knew Bernard as the captain of the titular ill-fated ocean liner in James Cameron’s epic Titanic. But what some fans may not realize is that even earlier in his career, Bernard had actually gone bare on screen, and even starred in a sensuous gay rom-com!

So where can you see a young Bernard Hill nude? He first flashed his British fanny in the 1988 dramedy Drowning By Numbers, which boasts of huge cast of stripped-down stars. Bernard brings out his bare backside when he gets out of bed to look out a window, giving whatever’s making all that noise out there a much better view!

Then in 1990’s Mountains of the Moon, Bernard moons the camera just shy of two hours in when he pulls down his trousers and shows off his tush while comparing scars.

We wish we’d gotten to see more of Bernard’s hilly hindquarters, especially in the 1996 film Madagascar Skin. During a storm, a shirtless and tattooed Bernard gets under the covers with costar John Hannah, undressing John and proceeding to steam up the sheets with some tender caresses. We’d like to think that Bernard would have dove Helm’s Deep into more on-screen nudity if given the chance.
